trying to install ubuntu on dell 1100 laptop, get small screen in middle of screen which doesn`t show forward box to continue instalation

Asked by Jeff Erickson

Dell inspiron 1100, celeron, 1gb256mg ram, wndws xp home. Got sick of wndws problems ( not very comp. literate). Bought ubuntu book with disk (2 sides/versions). Changed boot order as instructed. Here`s what it does . When it boots to the ubuntu desktop and I click install, it shows the question window at the beginning of the installation process in a small (about 50%), centered window, that seems to be missing the lower 25% of the window which contains the option boxes to move forward with the process. I simply want to erase windows/ install ubuntu and get away from the Seattle long con. Help. Thanx

Normally this should not be a problem.

Just press enter twice (I have done that kind of thing before, without
seeing anything and suddenly you can see the desktop, give it up to 10
minutes). It should start the system from the CD and let you "see" how your
computers works with ubuntu. Then once into Ubuntu you can just Install the
system from the icon in the desktop.

Good luck!
