can i change my 3d cube desktop into a sphere or a cylinder shape?

i have seen alotta screenshots of ppl who have gotten this but i cant seem to find out how to. im running hardy heron.

No, but if you increase the number of virtual desktops it can become a pentagon, hexagon etc

Further to that, apparently it is in the pipeline (version 0.7.5)
Ubuntu repositories currently have 0.7.4.

You have to get it from compiz git I think and then compile

I would suggest that tackling the manual install of compiz is not worth the effort in order to get a version a little earlier than the repositories.
My advice is sit back, enjoy your cube and wait for the updates to bring you the cylinder.
