ubuntu 8.04 won't wake from sleep or hibernate

I've got a Toshiba Satellite A105, and ever since upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04 it won't come out of hibernate or sleep mode. Sometimes there's a white screen, sometimes the loading screen freezes, sometimes a completely blank screen freezes. Please advise.

Many computers are unable to both suspend and hibernate; you are not alone. The best you can do is wait for future releases. Both suspend and hibernate did not work for me in Gutsy, but suspend now works in Hardy. Hopefully your hardware configuration will be more supportive with acpi in Intrepid.
