USB Not working in 7.04

Asked by T. Kerber

I just installed Ubuntu 7.04 on a Gateway E-3400 Desktop. It has a 866 Mhz Processor, 512 Meg Ram. Everything appears to be working well except the USB ports. The ports worked before when I had Windows on the computer. I checked the Bios to see if I accidentally disabled the ports but I didn't. Is there anything that could keep these from working that I cannot think of at this time. There are two ports built into the motherboard and I pci Card that I can install in the system in the event that the motherboard's ports won't work. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Just after you plug in a USB drive/device, post the output of:-
dmesg | tail -25

It looks like the USB ports may be malfunctioning since there is no USB activity seen on that output. Try using the PCI card and see if those USB ports work.

I installed the PCI card with the USB ports and everything works great on them, Just for kicks I tried the others mounted on the motherboard again and still nothing. I will just resign myself to using the two that I added. Thanks for your help.
