I have a Toshiba A75 series notebook that won't load Ubuntu. All I get is gobbldy gook after I click on try or install. I am doing a memory test and after 2 tests, 2% shows as passing with almost 4 million errors. My guess is that the internal memory is defective. Is it possible to replace the internal memory on this machine?

What do you mean the "internal memory", you must mean the RAM modules. There is no such thing as RAM on the motherboard itself, you should be able to replace the RAM modules the way you would in a desktop PC.

Thanks for the reply. When one removes the "memory" cover from the bottom of the notebook, there are two slots. One is empty and the other has a wireless module in it. The notebook show that there is 447 mb of memory. Therefore, there must be memory somewhere else. The only thing I could think of, since there are no modules installed in the slots, was onboard memory. Perhaps there is another slot elsewhere on the machine?

This HP laptop I am using has a memory slot at the bottom of the notebook, but it also has another slot under the keyboard where the preinstalled memory is located.
You should contact the manufacturer for instructions on how to replace the memory.
You will probably need a SO-DIMM memory module: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO-DIMM

And please do not forget to remove the AC adapter _and the battery pack_ before opening your laptop. One can break things very easily when there is still current running trough the electronics :)

Can you help with this problem?
