desktop tmp folder location shortcut

I would like to put a shortcut to the tmp folder on the desktop or panel. I've tried everything I can think of...help please?

Open nautilus (Places menu, Computer)
Hold down Shift-Ctrl and drag the tmp folder to your desktop
