This problem occurs because your the Linux Kernel can not read ACPI information from BIOS.
The ACPI information can be found in: /proc/acpi

Hello João,
Did you installed your laptop with ACPI option?
If yes, then probably the Linux Kernel is not 100% compatible with your laptop's BIOS version.
You can try update your BIOS, http://
Do you know your laptop's BIOS version??
| João Pedro Horta (joaohorta) said : | #7 |
i installed ubuntu with all defaults, i didnt even knew what that was.
i dont know what bios i have, i have a hp pavilion dv9700.

Hello João,
Which Ubuntu version you installed? Do you try lmsensors?? Other possibility is maybe install a vanilla Linux kernel (www.kernel.org), but it is not guarantee that you can read temperature information, because the BIOS of your laptop can not be 100% compatible with Linux.
I was research about what BIOS version used in your laptop and probably is a Phoenix NoteBiOS.

Hello João,
I verified and Ubuntu install with ACPI support by default.
