Asked by thehandicapspot

I have a E-machines Intel 82845g/gl/ge/pe/gv graphics card. I get brown screen when loading Ubuntu 7.1 and 8.04 Brown screen and cursor. I have had a friend give me a copy of Live CD also and his does not work on my computer. I don't even get to desktop. It loads with orange bar and then brown screen with cursor and nothing else. Computer needs to be shut off from power supply box because it freezes.
Please find a solution for me. Thanks.

Could you post the full specifications of the machine. Also, what happens when you try starting the Live CD in Safe Graphics Mode?

the specs of machine are as follows
e machines T 2862
330 Intel Celeron 2.66GHZ Processor
256 Ram
Intel 82845g/gl/ge/pe/gv graphics card
When I start in safe mode the brown screen doesnt appear. It is black with a blue box in the middle of page with a phrase "Out of Range". That is because the monitor is not getting a signal from the pc.
I have a BENQ flat screen monitor.
I think this has something to do with my graphics card. Thanks for input. Please help if you can. again thanks

About your specifications, they are all sufficient enough to run Ubuntu properly except for the amount of RAM, while they are enough to run Ubuntu normally, you would be hard put to do almost anything memory intensive such as using Firefox, so you may want to look at a lighter derivative of Ubuntu such as Xubuntu which can be found here:-
 http://www.xubuntu.org/get

The low amount of RAM may also give an idea of the problem which may be that Ubuntu is taking time to load all the necessary applications and services onto the RAM, and since there is only a little(recommended amount is 384Mb of RAM) it may find it difficult.

Can you help with this problem?
