do you know if and how you formatted your harddisk during install?

open a terminal and run the following command. paste the output here:

mount

ok, i have installed ubuntu using a cd my friend gave me. i had widnows before but i formatted and installed ubuntu. after installation i went to see if my C: drive was there. it is not. or is it filesystem. because if it install world of warcraft and need to edit files then i cannot because it installs into C: which i cannot see. main thing: i need to see my C: drive because its my only one.

Hi,

ok, assuming I understand it right that you completely removed Windows and the only installation is Ubuntu, than there is no C: drive. Linux does not use letters to name its drives. Under Linux, the drives (or, to be more precise partitions) are named either by the name of the mount point or as an option a given label.

Nevertheless, you install seems to work, otherwise the output of mount posted above by you wouldn't be possible. Looking at the output you have indeed one single partition on your HD, the so-called Root-Partition. This you can access with any file manager (e.g. Nautilus).

In case this all sound new or strange to you, please refer to the Ubuntu Wiki:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount

In case you are not native English speaking, there may be a Local Community providing more info, too.
