Hello,

When you insert the CD in your drive and reboot, you should get a menu and select the Try ubuntu option from it. If you do that, you should not be asked for any login information.

Please make sure you've downloaded the CD image from http://www.ubuntu.com

Hope this helps,
Cheers,

Nicolas

I've had this problem before. In my case, the Live Ubuntu was not able to load certain files that are needed to create the Live user session. It should be either the CD is defective or the CDROM isn't working as well as it should.

Since you tried with 2 different CDs with same results, I suspect it's your CDROM drive. Do you have another machine that you could test out the 2 CDs with to verify this?

I did notice that the following errors showed up on startup screen:
245.741480] butter I/O error on device d0 Logical block 0
283.798358] butter I/O error on device d0 Logical block 0

everything seems to load ok, drivers and devices are found.

I still getting the log on screen and can NOT get past it to try out Ubuntu.

I still want to look Ubuntu over and see if its worth putting on a computer.

I want to thank all that have responded to this problem.

I admit I'm stumped. Your machine is newer than mine so it shouldn't have issues with the optical drive.

Can you try generating md5 checksums of the CD you burned against the ones provided on the Ubuntu site? Just a basic check to be on the safe side

I think this is some how connected with the hard drives and/or IDE controller, when I unplug the prower to the hard drives I can almost get the cd to install Ubuntu on a SD card. Having problems with the partitions running out of space on a 1gb card.

Again, I want to thank all that have responded to this problem.

I may start looking for an old computer to install Ubuntu on.
