You have downloaded "GoogleEarthLinux.bin" for Linux from
http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html

Method 1) Using Nautilus (or any other) file manager.
Right click on the "GoogleEarthLinux.bin" file and make it executable.
See this video: http://www.futuredesktop.org/tmp/Howto_install_Google_Earth_in_Ubuntu.ogg
---

Method 2) Cd into the download directory and run
$ sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin

Notice the requirements:
# Graphics Card: 3D-capable with 32MB of VRAM
# Screen: 1280x1024, "Millions of Colors"

It's quite easy to install 3D acceleration support if you have ATI, Intel or NVIDIA's graphic card.

Hello,

The video was quite old and I had to delete it to gain more disc space.
But here is a copy of the video: http://www.edbl.no/tmp/Howto_install_Google_Earth_in_Ubuntu.ogg

Notice that the http://www.medibuntu.org repository contains the latest version of GoogleEarth.
Browse to this website http://www.futuredesktop.org and follow the instructions in step 7a) and 7b).

Then install GoogleEarth using the Synaptic or command line, or just clik on this apt-link:
apt://googleearth
