Hi,
your system seems have another sound card:
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02)
Probably this is the built in sound card. Is the creative card on a pci slot? Maybe it's a conflict between the two cards, try to disable the intel card with settings on your BIOS. How to set your Bios is described on your PC Manual.
Bye

I too have a Creative sound card and an onboard card. Unfortunately the Creative sound card I am using is not supported by Linux (yet).
It is arguable that you might get better quality sound from the Creative card (once it can be made to work), but if all you want is the basic sound functions then the onboard sound card will work fine.
Personally speaking my ears aren't that good, so I just removed the non-working Creative PCI card and only use the onboard one.
