DWA 652 Ethernet Card Ubuntu 8.04 Problem

Asked by Gaztick

**Very new Ubuntu user**

I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5570). I have a D-Link DWA 652 PCMCIA Ethernet Card (NIC). However, I don't seem to have the necessary software/drivers to run it. When I click the connections in the top tool bar, it only gives me the options of Wired Network and Manual Configuration (when disconnected from wired lan). I am wondering if anyone knows a way to solve this problem.

I am not concerned about the fact it is an 802.11n card, I will be perfectly satisfied with 802.11g if it means this hardware will work properly.

I think the DWA 652 uses the Atheros AR5416...

It's definitly not in the madwifi supported card list: http://madwifi.org/wiki/Compatibility/D-Link
(madwifi is the driver that support Atheros card on linux)

However it look that is supported in the recent (non-stable) version of madwifi
So you will need to compile the lastest driver yourself

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=668272&highlight=AR5416

There seem to be information on the madwifi website on how to compile... (there are some link in the topic linked above)

Hope you'll manage to figure it out :)
It's probably not easy for someone new to linux... can't help you though the whole process but if you have a specific problem don't hesitate.

Can you help with this problem?
