Hi,

Enter this into a terminal:
sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx
sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl

then restart your computer, and post your results.

How do you know he has got an ATI card? He has just told us about his processor? Why xserver-xgl? Shouldn't Compiz work with both nVidia and Ati with only propriate drivers?

I also suggest you tell us which graphic card you have in your computer and wait before doing what "Nick Ellery" proposed you to do.
