install xubuntu in DOS mode

Asked by Hakeem

I have been trying to install xubuntu on my computer with the burned cd, but the the only way to actually get my computer to read the cd is to burn it as a bootable disc. When I do the the computer starts in something called DR-DOS and asked me to type in something after A:\ ( floppy[y drive). Now I can change it so it asks for the CD drive, D:\ but this DR-DOS mode can't run the wubi.exe or the umenu.exe so how can I install xubuntu. I have tried other methods and the computer won't load xubuntu's boot menu when it restarts. And I am using nero smart start to burn my CD-R's.

Hey there,

Basically what it sounds like to me is that you've tried putting this image onto disc using a program called Nero. All that has happened is where you've gone to put the file onto disc, you've opted for Nero to create the disc in boot formation. This is false, you should not of done this as you've just wasted a disc on DR-DOS which isn't relevant to installing Ubuntu. Nero has a specific tool called 'Burn Image to Disc' and this is what you should have used. When you've clicked that, you'll need to locate the ISO for Ubuntu and put it onto disk then try booting.

The way you've gone round it is you've tried to create a new blank data disc in bootable format and added the ISO that way or along those lines.

Can you help with this problem?
