got problem with joining internet

I am using Intel(R) PRO/100 VM build in network card and I have to join a internet connection with Window Sever 2003 in my cyber. So , how can I connect through these server with Ubuntu 7.04 . I don't know how to see my network adapter working properly.If you can, please tell me how to configure network adapter to work. I added my server proxy 192.168.1.100 and DNS server 203.81.71.73 and 69 properly but I can't surf the internet. I am the new user of Linux and now I don't know what to do. So please help me!

you would be better upgrading to ubuntu ardy (8.04) and using Likewise-open to authenticate to your windows server domain.
