can not install ubuntu bootable installation cd. have wiped harddrive of all windows programs. dont know what to do

i have an older cp that had windows 95,98 2000,ME. iintalled a harddrive eraser and deleted all window program. i bought a ubuntu bootable installation cd. can not get it to install (guess i dont know how) when i start up the pc i get a screen with bios and and all that other stuff . you need to open the bios screen when booting up your computer (usually press delete or one of the F keys whist its booting up to get to that) and set the first bootable device to cdrom, you may need to consult your motherboard manual to find out howto do this.
