Community project help

Asked by stanjam

Hello. My name is Stan and I teach at a local college in Massachusetts. We are starting a new program at the college in the spirit of Ubuntu. We will be taking donated computers from local businesses and refurbishing them in order to give them to students that need computers.

The idea is to benefit everyone in our local community. Businesses can get rid of old hardware cheap, students who do not have computers can get one, and tech majors can gain practical experience by participating in the recycle process.

We already have 100 computers in the pipeline, and we have chosen Ubuntu to be our operating system for the project. We can burn cd's to give to the students but we would MUCH rather give them nice professional looking ubuntu cd's. If at all possible we are going to use 6.10 Edgy.

We simply have no budget and can not afford to purchase Ubuntu cd's and will have to burn them. We were wondering if Ubuntu would like to donate some cd's for the project so that the students have nice professional Ubuntu cd's to take home with their computers. It certainly would go a long way to promote this wonderful operating system.

This program was born from a student movement to help erode the digital divide, and we hope it becomes a benchmark for other colleges and businesses to follow. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

You might do better announcing your project on the Ubuntu community forums:

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/

And possibly creating a page on the wiki...
