VMware Server on Ubuntu 8.04

Asked by Henning Eggers

With the release of 8.04, there seems to be no official vmware-server package anymore. But vmware does provide a binary for Linux. Can this be made to work on Ubuntu 8.04?
Thanks for any hint,
Henning

I've tried to install VMWare server on Hardy, to no success. It worked fine on Gutsy, though. I suggest trying out a different virtual machine application instead.

I might look into others sometime but I'd still like to use vmware. I remember reading about it but can't find it anymore.

Yes, that was the one! I tried it out and - it works! Thanks for the quick reply.

Shouldn't this be an FAQ? It is a significant change for all users of VMWare when upgrading to Hardy.

Thanks again,
Henning
