Login window size, what governs it?

Asked by george_rutkay

The size of the built-in login window - what governs the size of that?

Reason - another installation on a family computer - when I set the resolution so their desktop looks nice, easy to read and not crowded (1024X768), then they log out, the log-in screen is HUGE and the selections for Options (such as shutdown, restart) are completely sunk below the bottom of the screen.

How do I make the login window respect the size settings of the one and only user on that particular computer and maintain 1024X768 size always, even during login?

Hmm.. this has something to do with deleting the resolutions that you don't want in xorg.conf, and leaving the 1024*768, so GDM (the login window) uses only that. However Hardy Heorn uses a new, slim xorg.conf and I am not experienced in editing it.

Maybe someone else can offer help?
