Cannon PIXMA MP470 ubuntu drivers not available

Asked by modumass

I have just purchased a Canon Pixma MP470 and cannot find drivers that work in Ubuntu 8.04. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can get the printer to print at a max res of 600X600 DPI but cannot get the scanner to work at all.

Thanks Bhavani, that post does answer part of the question, the printer works however the second part of that post requires a download "A test driver for MP470 is ready, you can download it at the following link:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/ogro4h" and that link is no longer available.

Thanks for the quick response though.

Hello

Instructions on how to install the modified Pixma driver above Sane 1.0.18 are given on this blog:

http://mp610.blogspot.com/2007/11/new-sane-scanner-driver-for-canon-mp610.html

Here is a nice discussion on the same

I followed these instructions, and was able to get the scanner on my MP470 working.

Thank you!

However, now when I try to print, gutenprint seems to "stick". By that I mean it doesn't regester an error but says it is print page 1, but never advances beyond 3%. The printer status is listed as: Printer 'MP470_series' may not be connected. Which cannot be, because it scans just fine!

Is there anything in the referenced instructions that could be interfering with the printer?

Can you help with this problem?
