lot of small problem

Hi I am new in linux but I but in my computer Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy for few weeks ago every thing was working fine but I only have download automatic secureaty update and digicam because f spot dind not open but now I can not send or get email but it work fine before in firefox the back barrow is not working and I have never got user login desktop to work as I like I always haft to type in user name and password but I like to have it as it are in windows your picture and user name are on the screen I have try every thing in administration login window but nothing work I even try as root user to I need to reinstal my program or go back to M. vista?

So if I read this correctly you downloaded some updates and now email is not working?

Try getting all of the latest updates with

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

What email reader are you using?
Evolution? Thunderbird?

Thanks but I just re install my ubuntu 8.04 and then it was working I am useing Evolution
