Setting up Toshiba 3110 CT display for Ubuntu.
Hello.
My problem is that I can't display the GUI of Ubuntu 6.06 on my Toshiba portege 3110 CT.
My knowledge of Linux is quite low, but its ever growing by the day.
I have found this page on my quest to find help;
http://
I think this page is the key, as this line "For Debian Potato (2.2) with XFree86 version 3 I used the /etc/XF86Config file (800x600 version) from the Toshiba website (here). This uses the SVGA server." Seems to tell me that its possible.
When I boot up my laptop with Ubuntu 6.06 it says there is no GUI with this message -
"Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface).It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem? Yes No"
Now, after that it makes me log in, and the I am in the command line as <username>$.. which i understand is not root.
If i boot up in recovery mode, it takes me straight to the #. Which again i think it means root.
I have the option to take the hardrive and put in my spare Computer here, and use Ubuntu correctly with an internet connection if this helps you to help me.
Thank you so much if you can provide me with any information. This laptop has been so far a waste of money ever since I brought it. And if you can help me make it work. I will be very greatful.
