nautilus unexpected error

Asked by Jim Oliver

after upgrade from 7.10 to hardy I get this message on boot:" Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the factory. Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem". Then after 30 seconds the desktop comes up and nautilus opens in the show hidden files mode. Every thing else seems to work ok. I cannot change the view in nautilus when it opens. It always opens in the show hidden files mode.
Can someone help? The nautilus error reporting site had a similar report that was marked invalid and was told to try here.

Thanks anyone

Have you tried killing bonobo-activation-server via the system monitor (System->Administration->System Monitor)? Try to "end process" before resorting to "kill process" I have no idea what bonobo-... is, but I've had that error myself (with the same program), and I just did what it told me to. After a glance at the man page (man bonobo[Tab]), I think you may want to avoid doing this if you run a server, but I just don't know.

No I did not, it kills itself and then restarts nautilus which opens. Actually since your answer it has stopped doing that
and seems to be functioning ok!

Magic
