Shell Mode???

Well I received my copy of Ubuntu software...I installed the OS properly, it started fine everything worked, I restarted it and wtf?...I starts something called Shell Mode ( in which u only type words like: "exit" "ip" etc.)...It always starts this shell mode. I reinstalled Ubunta and...same :( Please help me with my issue...

btw im using Ubuntu 8.04

If I understand you correctly, "Shell Mode" has a command prompt that looks like one of the following. Can you tell us which one?

The command prompt is the part of the line before the part you can type/change. If it doesn't look like any of the above, can you tell us what it does look like or, better yet, type it out?

Yes it has a command prompt. It's like MS-DOS. You can do trace and other commands. I was something like Debian 1.3 something like that.
