Auto mounting of USB disks not working

Asked by Jim

I have just done a network upgrade of my Ubuntu system to 8.04 LTS.

Before the upgrade I could attach, and automatically mount, both USB memory sticks, and external USB 2.0 drives.

Since the upgrade, the systen refuses to auto-mount the USB memory devices. In It doesn't even auto mount the window-C drive; the external 160GB disk, which is sitting in a USB2.0 external enclosure, or the memory sticks. I've noticed that USB memory sticks are seen in the file browser, but they cannot be mounted.

Any idea?

Thanks

Jim

Thanks Bhavani,

I followed the suggestions contained in the links.

They worked once, when I removed ehci_hcd from the kernel. Both the 80GB caddie and memory stick automatically mounted, and could be accessed. When I rebooted and reconnected the drives, neither mounted automatically.

Both disks where accessible after I mounted them manually.

Why is this the case?

Any ideas? Will the bug in the kernel get fixed. From looking at the forums, many people to be affected.

Thanks

Jim
