Ubuntu to Kubuntu Package Question

Asked by Linux Is Pure Pwnage

I am going to switch from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to Kubuntu 8.04 KDE4 Remix. Are most of the packages that are listed in synaptic available in Kubuntu or no? I want to prepare for Kubuntu so I was wondering if most of the appilcations I have installed on Ubuntu I could re-install on Kubuntu such as Envy, Pidgin Instant Messenger, Firefox, and what not. Thank you.

I would also want accelerated drivers, Opera, Wine, and the terminal in Kubuntu. Does Kubuntu have synaptic? Can Kubuntu install most packages listed within the package manager? Thank you in advance.

Yes, it more or less is the same, except many of them are substituted for KDE applications. But you will not have any issues coping. In case you didn't know, you can also download kubuntu-desktop from Synaptic, which enables you run KDE. To select the session, you just select Options > Session in the Login Window. This can be useful for you to get a feel of Kubuntu and KDE.
