Monitor Error

Asked by FinalChrono

Well I picked to install and my monitor will just black out for a while then it will come back giving me an error saying that my video card isn't installed right or it can't read my monitor. I have an HP.

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ s939
2 GB of Memory
200GB Harddrive
I have an onboard graphics card but I disabled it and installed a new one.
I now have an ATI Radeon X850 XT Platinum 256 MB PCI-E
Windows XP Media Center
NEC Multisync 77F Monitor

It sounds like you might need to install the ATI drivers, here's a link that might help: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI

Cheers,

Matt

Well explain to me if you could what you mean by install "ATI drivers" because I used all the CDs that the video card came with and I even have Catalyst on Windows XP.

Could you enter the following into the terminal, and then restart X or restart the computer.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

When you get that error box come up saying that X doesn't work press Ctrl-Alt-F1. This should put you into a terminal where you can carry out the command line instructions that people seem to be demanding. ;-)

That should be enough to get you started,

Matt

I tried what you said williams and it did nothing. I still get the error "no screens found."

My money's on the drivers. I'm not 100% sure, but when you install the drivers on the livecd it might work. (With a bit of luck).

I have the same problem exactly. I have an asus pro31J notebook with an ati radeon x2300. Just thought you might like to know you're not alone.

Can you help with this problem?
