Reinstall 14.04LTS

Asked by mark

Can I reinstall 14.04LTS 64bit without losing anything (passwords, emails, bookmarks ,other users etc.)
Tried to upgrade to 16.04 but with no success. Tried different things in terminal to correct issues but issues only got worse.
Feel I need to do a clean sweep to get things working before that upgrade attempt.

Your backups will protect your data. You do have backups, right?

To reinstall, you will need to wipe the system partition and then reinstall. If you have a separate partition for /home then this is a tonne easier and you can use the 'something else' option to reuse the storage as /home but to NOT format it.

Either way, having backups incase of catastrophe is key.

Can you help with this problem?
