Desktop pc how do I enable suspend and hibernate

Asked by philinux

Asus M3A78-EH,2 250gig HD's, AMD64x2 5200+, 2gig ram, NVidia 8600GT 512meg.

Rather than shutdown I would like to be able to use suspend or hibernate.
If I choose either the machine goes to sleep but on pressing the power button to restart It hard locks up.
Have to use reisub to restart machine.

It's provided by default when you click the red power button on the top-right corner of your screen.

You hardware just doesn't seem to play nice with ubuntu / linux.
There are lot's of issue with suspend and hibernate (especially suspend actually). It is a pretty difficult process.

You can try changing some suspend setting but I can be a litle complicated. ( I suggest you google a bit if you have the time and will to do it )
You can also help improving Ubuntu by submitting a bug report (try searching first if it's not already reported)

Some of the things I've seen regarding changing settings seem very convoluted. I though I'd ask here before reporting a bug.
