how to boot xp in safe mode

i've installed xp sp3 on my dual xp/ubuntu (hardy) and the xp never completes the booting process always starts.
a solution have been suggest in changing some settings in xp in safe mode.
how does one get into the safe mods from grub loading?

You do not boot XP in safe mode through GRUB, once you select the entry I believe you aught to click a certain function key, like F7, but I am not really sure.

Also one more thing, don't be absolutely sure that you can reach XP through safe mode since I myself applied SP3 and it caused XP to malfunction completely, it didn't start up through normal, safe mode or even the terminal, so I doubt if you can too. But anyway, good luck.
