Can't reinstall Ubundu...

Asked by FredC

I can't reinstall Ubundu, i had issue to set up Evolution email management, so went to system, Synaptic manager, and delete everything concerning Evolution to instead install Thunderbird....Big mistake!!! I reboot the laptop after uninstalling Evolution....now i have no desktop , to task bar...nothing...just the picture of the screen saver and the icone for my external hard drive. So i opened my External hard drive , clicked on online help , and accessed the internet. I redownload Ubundu , burned it on a CD...but the version downloaded is not a selfbootable version...and i can't figure out how to reinstall Ubundu as I didn't found any executable file...

Please Please Please i beg on your knowledge and kindness to help me to sort out this issue.
I thank you very much in advance.

You can recover the packages you may have deleted by booting Ubuntu in Recovery Mode and running:-
apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
after the process is finished, boot the PC with:-
reboot

See if that will allow you to recover your desktop.

doesn't work neither...I thought i didn't download the right version ubundu.i386 instead of ubundu.amd64 which is for a different type of laptop...And i followed the same recommendation from the first person who tried to help as well as the help from the second person....both solution are not working. I might have done something very wrong with my PC...but please , any new solution are more that welcome to being brought forward... Thank you all.

I solved my problem. I lent my DVD installation to a friend and get it back later on in the evening. I just reinstalled the whole packages into the laptop and then upgrade in a mean time. Thanks all for your precious help.
