cant see videos or flash after hardy heron upgrade

Installed HH 8.04 upgrade a couple days ago and can't see any video or flash presentations now. Tried the fixes in Question #31383 but, no joy.
I'm new to Ubuntu and like it a lot but very poor at using terminal commands. Be gentle. *grin*
