Installing KDE4 on Ubuntu 8.04

Asked by Emad William

Hi,

I installed KDE4 on my Ubuntu 8.04 to work with it parallel with GNOME.
It works fine, but the applications that were already installed on Gnome work on KDE with a very old graphical interface (like KDE1 and Windows 95) ...
Is there anything to install on KDE to make them work fine, or I may be have to reinstall them all ?

P.S : There's something else: Is the KDE4 installed from Ubuntu the same as Kubuntu ? I mean with the Kubuntu modifications and themes ?

Yes there is:

Install gtk-qt-engine-kde4 if you are using kde4

or the package gtk-qt-engine if you are using kde3

Then, you can configure it going to Kde control panel-->Appearence-->GTK styles and fonts

As to your other questions installing KDE4 on Ubuntu, does not install *some* Kubuntu specific modifications (for instance, artwork and Kubuntu branding).
