Need permisson to read shared files.

Asked by hofsmo

I have a desktop pc and a laptop, and I want to be able to transfer files between them. I'm able to read and copy files from my desktop pc, however I can't read files from my laptop, though I did exactly the same steps.

The steps I did:
Right clicked on the folder I wanted to share, and selected sharing options.
Marked Share this folder and changed the share name.
Marked Guest access
Pushed the modify share button, and got an error telling me I wasn't root, waited a few days and did everything again.

After I followed these steps om both my machines, I only get an error message when I try to transfer files from my laptop to my desktop pc. I could probably make it work with the terminal, however I would like it to work with the gui. Any ideas?

What was the error message? permission denied?
As well as allowing guests over the network to read/write your files, the actual files themselves have to have local read/write permissions for everyone
Right click on the folder, click properties, click the permissions tab, and make sure "others" is able to read and write files, as well as create and delete folders. click "apply permissions to enclosed files" and, hopefully that should work
