blank desktop running Ubuntu 5.1 on an Asus board and an AMD processor

Just installed Ubuntu version 5.1 on my desktop. Asus motherboard and an AMD athlon processor with 1.25 gigs of RAM. No problem during installation, I can also log into ubuntu but its just a blank brown screen. What should I do?

ubuntu 5.10 is *extreamly* old and unsupported, i reccomend getting the latest version (8.04) from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu
