firefox uses all my cpu

Sometimes firefox revs up to 50% cpu and the whole machine stops. if I leave it there to work out it's issues and come back later it's still there and I have to force quit. I'm running 8.04 on a laptop with following lspci:

firefox 3 is still in beta, you can install firefox 2 instead which might work better for you by running sudo apt-get install firefox-2
