Do you got this error message when trying to install Ubuntu ? If yes, when does it happen ? Does it freeze/hang the computer? On which installer Step/Screen does it freeze?

Yes I got the message when I try to install Ubuntu. Once the Ubuntu logo comes then it says: Install Ubuntu without modifying the computer or simply install ubuntu etc...I click on isntall Ubuntu without modification then the installation proces starts then it hangs up for few min and then the error comes up and it keeps on looping saying the same thing over and over again

I suppose you are using latest Installation CD (Ubuntu 8.04). In your motherboard setup menu, can you look for SATA interface and look if it has a 'AHCI' compatibility mode ? It can help with some motherboards ... Also if you don't have any other Os installed, you can process a normal install (not the one you call 'install without modification')

Thanks I have to sleep for about two hours then I'll be back on it because I need to get to the bottom of it and be part of Ubuntu. I'll let you know as soon as I get results. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Dear Christophe!
In my humble opinion I only have one word to discribe you: "Genious"

I did what you told me and lo and behold I was able to install Ubuntu and have it running.
I still have a long way to go since I am not quite familiar with the new commands But from the bottom of my heart I do say Thanks a million to you.

Thanks once more a million But I would like to know which book to buy in order to learn about the commands that I'll need to operate my machine. I already bought the Ubuntu 1000+ commands but it seems to be advanced for me. I need something like Ubuntu for dummies and learn from there on! Once more thanks you for your help.

You want to learn how use a Linux Desktop in general or how to setup a Linux Server?

How to use it in general But I have 3 computers at home but for the present I am only interested in knowing how to use a linux Desktop. By the way due to my experience in windos I start moving through Ubuntu since installing it yesterday. Now I am in the process of securing all the screws and adding another hard drive etc..... Once more thanks

as a Desktop user, you don't need much knowledge about command lines. But small books about linux administration in general will give you an overview of the filesystem structure , and basic commands to manage your files (lising, copy, moving, finding) and your CPU/mem/disk ressources .... As you progress (slowly , you didn't learn how use Windows in a matter of day, neither me) , you will have better understanding of Linux and any OS in general ; it's just a matter of experience and curiosity.
