ubuntu only loading from cd

Asked by ben

Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop edition 'installs' and loads perfectly on my laptop (AMD Athlon 1.0GHz) - though it will only load from the cd and when I close down the system and reboot, I get a message saying hard drive boot record failed.
I would like to install Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop to be run from the HDD where it will be the sole OS and believe I have done everything the installer program asks (I insterted the cd made from downloaded ISO, booted the computer, went throught the installation steps and was left with a functioning system...that only read and ran from the cd).

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be very greatfully appreciated as it looks to be an excellent system!

Many thanks

Hello,

I think it will help to know exactly your hardware (exact laptop brand, model and serial number).

Also, describing us what options you input for Disk partitionning and bootloader ....

Hello,

Thank you for your kind help to fix my problem but I have actually worked it out myself! The problem was with the bootloader and Ubuntu works fine now!

Thank you very much
