Problem with Youtube on Firefox.

Asked by michael

This is not, the most important question, but I would like to know what causes it.
Click on a Youtube (any) and Video and Audio start correctly, about 5 to 10 seconds later Audio starts again. Now one video, with TWO audios, out of sync. Hit mute, only one audio. It is out of sync with video.
Have posted on Mozilla support for a week, no response.

I just installed Chrome, it works fine just like all browsers, except Firefox.

If you try with a guest login, is it the same?

When I log in as a guest, Firefox Youtube works as it should. I did not think to check this. I have no experience with this kind of problem. Suggestions welcome.

If the problem is only present when logged in with your own user name, but not in a guest session, then this might be an indication that it is caused by your firefox settings.

I have checked the settings and found nothing that should cause this problem. I downloaded an Youtube video to hard drive. It plays correctly from there. I am going to look into HTML5 and Flash. Is it possible somehow both could be playing their audio? Also, no trouble with Minitube.
Thanks

You might try deleting (or renaming away for possible restore) your firefox settings folder.

I assume you don't use Thunderbird as your email client (if you do then don't use the commands here). You can reset your Firefox settings by closing the browser then running:

mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla_old

Then launch the browser. You will get a vanilla profile and you can test the plugin.

This is solved! Thanks to both Actionparsnip and Manfred. When I disabled "Youtube HTML5 - Video" it works correctly. I don't quite understand why this happened when I am logged in, but not when logged in as Guest. I am guessing that Guest only gets a vanilla profile.
Thanks again.
