After upgrade to 16.04, update-manager always asks for root password

Asked by Alexis Scheuer

Hello.

I upgraded my laptop from 14.04 to 16.04 a few days ago. Since then, the update manager always asks me to enter the password for root: to update the software list, to update any software, etc. Before, I only had to enter this password to install a new software (i.e. a new kernel). Is it really normal (it is quite annoying)?

The root password is also asked to shut down the bluetooth, but it is cut even if I don't give the password.

Of course, update-manager is up to date (1:16.04.3).

This is not restricted to update-manager! As I said, I already had a unnecessary request to cut the bluetooth.

I now need root password to connect (mount) any external disc through USB, and the password is also asked to disconnect the media (but it works when the password is not supplied).

There is no root password in Ubuntu. You use commands prefixed with sudo and you get all the access you need.

Hello, actionparsnip.

I do perfectly know, what I mean by "root password is asked" is that I get a pop-up asking for root privilege. And it now happens in a large amount of situations for which it was not needed in 14.04. I just wonder if it is a problem I could solve easily (e.g. by a new set-up of some applications), or if it is a bug, or ...

Well, it appears to have been a bug: this behaviour has stopped, I have no more unnecessary pop-up asking for root password...

Sorry for the disturbance.
