download desktop version for running from a CD/DVD

Asked by RW Schwartz

I want to try the new version of ubuntu (8.04) using the version that runs from a CD. I tried downloading the desktop version from the ubuntu site, but it is too big to fit on a CD as the instructions say. Am I downloading the incorrect version? I tried burning to a DVD +RW, but that didn't work. Does it need to be a DVD +R instead? I'm in the process of downloading the Alternate Desktop version. Is this the one I want? I notice that it is a bit smaller and may actually fit on a CD.

The Ubuntu iso is little bit over 699mb. I have a similar problem, with my CD's being exactly 699mb. I successfully burn the iso onto a DVD-R, but have never tried a DVD-RW.
