Login font too small

Asked by cyangusa on 2008-05-10

Login Screen Looks normal, but when I type my screen name and Password, font is so small I can not even read what I am writing. When I go in to OS gnome after ID and password, everything is fine and font size is fine as well.

Also, on Login screen, Session and others sub menu (such as Language, and KDE, failsafe) on the Left hand bottom, font are too small too see.

How do I change the font in Login Screen.

I need your help ASAP.

You may edit

/usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc (Assuming you are using Human theme)

You will find a line like :

  font_name = "Sans 11"

Don't forget to backup the file before edit
cp /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc_backup

When I try to save after i edited the gtkrc, it states the following:

Could not save the file /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc.
You do not have the permissions necessary to save the file. Please check that you typed the location correctly and try again.

I do I save or have the permission necessary.

Thank you in advances.

Ok,

Sorry I haven't tried to modify it myself before answering.
You can edit the file as root.

Open Termnial and paste the following command:

gksudo gedit /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

Edit the file and save :)

Rafik,

I am a newbie and I'm having the same trouble as Cyangusa with small login text which I almost can't see (Question #32615). I've followed the editing steps which you outlined and the problem remains in spite of me replacing Sans 12 with FreeSans 14. Have you any suggestions as to what I can do.

Thanks in advance
