wireless not working

I have a linksys wireless G router and a D-link wireless G notebook adapter card for laptop.

I have updated my Compaq n800c with no problems Ubuntu 8.04 seeing router, but an install of Ubuntu 7.10 on my HP nc8000 was ok until I deceided to update it as well to 8.04, everything was going well until I tried to click to get wireless going again, 8.04 as of 5/9/08 does not have the menu to drop down and select wireless connections...

Can anyone help???
