Ubuntu 8.4 can't see my Liteon dvd recorder in spite of booting from it.

Asked by Ian Saunders

Ubuntu 8.4 boots from my Liteon dvd drive but fails to find it when searching for a cd device and requests a device driver which I don't have. The only option I am left with is to abort the installation.

 Any ideas?

Hi Ian,

I had this problem when I was trying to install Hardy from IDE dvd drive (Hardy wasn't able to find my dvd drive). I switched to SATA dvd drive and Hardy found it. I believe this happened because of JMicron PATA controller on my Asus P5K motherboard.

If your dvd drive is SATA try to attach it to the SATA ports connected to the Intel chipset, and not the ones on the JMicron controller (Intel chipset has more ports connected to it - 4-6 ports).
