Unable to print to "HP 1018 Laser Jet" with Ubuntu 8.04

Asked by d73f

First time user to Ubuntu & Ubuntu 8.04

I have a laser jet HP 1018 printer direct connect via USB. Installed the HPLIP software package & still does not work.

The HPLIP software sees the printer correctly & so does the Ubuntu printer utility just will not print.

Fix by installing the latest version of "HPLIP 2.8.5"

For some reason the custom install failed but I re-ran with the auto install & is works great...

Thanks to myself for helping myself...

How do you check the version of hplip that's installed?
How did you install hplip 2.8.5. since synaptic only offers hplip 2.8.2.?

Since my upgrade to hardy I cannot print to my HP laserjet 4000 thats connected to a sitecom printserver via my router.

thanks

Jeroen

On the HPLIP help menu I click on the about to get the version.

On my Add/&Remove programs only 2.8.2 is offered, but I downloaded 2.8.5 from HP.

Hope this help....

I downloaded the package hplip 2.8.5. and installed it. It stil doesn't find my HP Laserjet 4000 printer, though it's connected via the router on a sitecom printserver: Any windows box can print to it and in Gutsy I can print to it. In Hardy 8.04 I can't.

Does anyone have another suggestion

Have you tried connecting your printer directly to your pc, just to narrow it down?

Which did you choose on the install, Auto or Custom?

Well, the printer is in another part of the building and not easily to move to my linux box. But when it's working fine form Gutsy, it should be working in Hardy to, wouldn't you think? Even in a new gfresh installed Hardy it refuses to print.

I choosed the auto install of hplip 2.8.5.
