Services admin GUI tool

Asked by Ricardo Pérez López

In Ubuntu, in the System -> Administration -> Services option, there's a services admin tool. This is ok, but that tool doesn't let me to start or stop a services immediatly.

What is the best GUI tool to start / stop services in Ubuntu?

Please, show me only GUI tools. I know the "/etc/init.d/service start" option, but I would like to know an option not lying into the console.

Thanks a lot.

Does unchecking the check box next to the service name not stop or start the service ? As far as service administration goes this is the only way to do it with a gui in the standard install ( I believe. Hope i'm not wrong )

Yes, you're right! I believed this tool only configures start and stop services _during boot_. Obviously I was wrong.

But when you stop a service using this method, the box net to the service remains unchecked, and therefore that service will not start during the next boot. I think "stop now" is different from "stop at boot". Two different functionalities must be two different options in the tool.

Nevertheless, there's an incoherence between the application and its help page.
