Should i upgrade from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 LTS

Asked by mrlopes

Hi peeps...

Am I missing out by still using Ubuntu 7.10??
I'm using a Sony Vaio laptop FS series.

I've loaded ubuntu onto my laptop over 5 times because of problems and to get it how i want it.
One of the times, i upgraded to 8.04 LTS but didn't get to use it as i thought it had made the startup slower. I re-installed the whole thing back to 7.10 straight away.

Could someone give me the PROs and CONs.
I've seen alot of problem messages about 8.04 LTS.
Is 7.10 more stable??

I would like to thank you for your submission.

Ubuntu GNU/Linux 8.04 contains a large quantity of current and up to date, as of date of build, software applications, including that of Mozilla Firefox 3, however if you are concerned about the use of software applications which are undergoing continual development, I would very much suggest the addition of Mozilla Firefox 2 alongside Mozilla Firefox 3.

Ubuntu GNU/Linux 8.04 is a Long Term Support iteration of Ubuntu GNU/Linux; therefore it is valid to receive active support for a period of 3 years as of 21 April 2008. Ubuntu GNU/Linux 7.10 is valid to receive active and continual support for an 18 month period as of 18 October 2007. If you are content with Ubuntu GNU/Linux 7.10, I would very much advise your use of it until such a period whereby your problem may be resolved or such a period whereby Ubuntu GNU/Linux 7.10 is not to receive active software application or Operating System support.
