Cant control volume from media keys on laptop

Asked by Sidarth Dasari

I recently found that the media keys on my dell laptop no longer control the volume of my ubuntu system. When I press a button the volume overlay shows up but nothing changes.

Hi

Try right clicking on the speakers by the clock in the top panel. Then click on preferences. If PCM is not selected, then select that, hit close, and it should work. If PCM is already selected, then I don't know.

Regards,

Or you can go into SYSTEM > PREFERENCES > KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS.

There you can assign keys to do your bidding.

That what i done.

Hope you find a way.

Thanks, the proposition from Sidarth worked for me.
I doubt, though, that reassigning keys would have made any difference, since my keys (and I assume Sidarth's, too, since the overlay did show up) were working, the command just didn't go to the correct part of the sound-manager.
