where is my AdobeReader?

Asked by Mike Cap

I installed the latest version of Adobe Reader - 8.1.2, which is posted on their website. I converted it from rpm to deb, and it installed "without a problem".
Except there is no entry in Applications Menu, and no icon on desktop.
The desktop pretends it's not there, but when i try to install it again, the installer claims the software is already installed, and "re-installs" it, but it doesn't help any.

Thanx Mike

You can try launching adobe from a terminal to check that the install went allright. To do this, open Applications->accessories->terminal and then type: acroread

Should this work, you can add a menu entry for it as detailed here: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-add-entries-in-gnome-menu.html

Another solution would be to remove the package you created from the rpm and use the Adobe provided deb package directly.

nicolasvww -- thanks for a quick help.
It started right away from terminal -- I didn't try it before as I didn't know what to type in to start it.
And the Menu entry was a breeze once I saw how-to.
Now I just need to find the "genuine" Acrobat icon somewhere, but that's not even important

thanks again Mike
